One Therapist’s Journey
Instalment 1: In The Beginning….
During my 25 years of hard core physical activity as an elite athlete, weight was never something I had to give much thought to. Health (of course) and athletic performance were always the “measurements” I lived by. Unfortunately, after 9 years of fertility issues and 8 (yes eight) pregnancies and finally, one perfect little boy later, I was left with a body I no longer recognized as my own. As my son grew, I realized that the time was well overdue to be the healthy role model I once again wanted to be, and although the “almighty scale” is not by any means the focus of my wellness journey, I’d be in denial if I didn’t admit that being overweight doesn’t negatively affect my health.
So, on September 15th, 2014, I set out (with many of our Wallis For Wellness friends and family) on a 90 day wellness journey to begin what I hope to be a huge step towards my wellness goals. My plan? A 90 day program including healthy eating, hydration, nutritional cleansing, re-introduction of REGULAR exercise and as a reward for a job well done, maybe even a spa treatment or two!
So here we are on the morning of Day 11. It’s Measurement Day! I have to admit that the first 4 days were a bit rough. After a nice 2 week vacation involving splurges of many kinds, tightening the reins was a bit challenging (to say the least!). The first 4 days felt a bit like a smack in the head, waking me up to the reality of how far I had strayed!! — Yikes! — But I powered through and by Day 5, I began feeling good and after two cleanse days, I now feel like a million bucks!!
So, out comes the measuring tape and scale and here are the results after 10 full days: the scale dropped 10 lbs and the measuring tape tells me that over an accumulation of 14 different measurements, 34 cms of me have disappeared! That’s about 13.5 inches for all you metrically challenged individuals! Wowee! Nothing like results to get me excited for the next step in my journey! Next measurements will be taken on Day 30. Bring it on!
Now you’ll have to excuse me as I go off to celebrate with a massage!
