What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn is ‘the intentional cultivation of non-judgemental moment-to-moment awareness’. It is not about not thinking! It is simply about bringing non-judgmental awareness to whatever is arising in each moment with an attitude of curiosity, acceptance and compassion. As such, mindfulness is a way of learning to take better care of yourself by relating directly to whatever is happening in your life in a conscious & systematic way. With the daily practice of meditation, body scans, and mindful movement, you can cultivate mindfulness & better understand the interplay between mind and body. With such awareness, you can mobilize your inner resources for strength, healing, balance and peace.
To date there is now over 30 years of research & over 500 published research studies supporting the benefits of mindfulness for people with a variety of conditions and concerns such as:
• Work, Family & Financial Stress
• Heart Disease & High Blood Pressure
• Gastro-Intestinal Distress
• Chronic Illness & Pain
• Eating Disturbances
• Anxiety & Panic Attacks
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
• Skin Disorders
• Fatigue & Sleep Problems
